WEEKLY WRAP ROUND 18
Date of Event : Wed Mar 14, 2018 4:20PM

THAT'S A WRAP

The 27 year FUCC playing career of this author came to end on Saturday with the same score of 17 that he made in his very first game for the FUCC at Para Hills way back in October 1991. And I batted like an old mole on both occasions and did everyone a favour by getting out when I did. It's been a pleasure lads but at the age of 50 the body, and to a lesser degree the mind, just can't keep up with the competitive thirst that wants us to play to the grave if we could. Thanks to my teammates in the A grade on Saturday for giving me a nice send off and the beers after play went down a treat. But this won't be the end of me lads because I will still enjoy doing the scoring duties for our Tuesday night T20 games and drifting down to Flinders on a Saturday afternoon in summer and having post match beers with my fellow FUCC's.

Those beers on Saturday looked likely to start alot earlier when the A grade struggled to 6/73 chasing Flinders Park's 7/244 but Sanj (50*), Maddog (30), Gigs (23), Mace (20), Dhan (15) and Mahen (15) saw us wag to a total of 213 in what was an honourable loss. Earlier in the day was probably our worst bowling performance of the year for the first 20 overs but then Sanj (3/37) and Robb (1/29) bowled nice spells followed by some masterful captaincy from Potty who brought me on to bowl my very under-rated leggies and chip in with a handy 2/15.

The B grade suffered a big loss, dismissed for  93 chasing GG's 6/225. No bowler took more than 1 wicket and Big T (40) played a lone hand with the bat. And the C grade finished on a high with a terrific run chase of Athelstone's 181, with a score of 5/184 off only 32 overs. Muddy (82*) and (2/29) was the star - his highest score for the FUCC across his 10 seasons of scattered games. Jay Chabria (49) got the run chase rolling and Justin Engels (24) was handy once again. Earlier, Clubba (2/49) chipped in with a brace and Umair Saeed (5/31) finished off his great late season form with only the third five wicket haul at the FUCC for the season

So that's it for another season lads. I didn't go into detail about batting and bowling aggregates for the year because that will all be revealed at Presentation Night at the Tonsley Hotel on Friday 23 March. Make sure you RSVP to Rusty so we know numbers. Signing off.
